So I just came back from a 45 minute walk downtown. I had to deposit my pay cheque and was going to get a latte. I’ve been introduced to a place called “The Fyxx” which makes a decent chi latte, so I figured I’d stop there on my way. I was there on Thursday and noticed it’s hours were noon to 8pm Sundays and holidays.

So I get to “The Fyxx” and discover it’s not open. Perhaps I remembered the hours wrong, so I examine the sign again… and confirm that the hours are exactly as I remembered them. Now there’s a coffee shop down the street from there, I figure I’d see if they’re open… They too were closed, but they’re sign clearly states they don’t open on Sundays. So too the mall across the street I go, perhaps starbucks is open… nope. Maybe the shop in mcnally is open… also no. Well, screw it I think to myself, and wander back home.

Now this trend doesn’t actually surprise me. I’ve noticed some things since I moved to Winnipeg that are different from Saskatoon. Store hours are generally shorter and less convenient here. I’m not going to attempt to explain why this is; but, I’ve noticed that nothing ever appears to be open when I try to go there. Perhaps I had higher expectations of this much larger city. Maybe I’m just being unreasonable to think that people may want to have a coffee and/or meet with friends on a Sunday. Heck, how about some places that are Denny’s or Perkins that are open after 1am?

I’m nearly compelled to open a coffee shop downtown ( or portage) that is actually open all night. A good coffee shop open late seems to be in demand from what I hear, yet I never see anything but restaurants that have a night shift. Well, perhaps when I’m rolling in money I’ll start all of these businesses and become crazy insane mega rich man. Or, maybe I’ll retire in Mexico where they actually have all night coffee shops!
